Reading Events

World Book Day

Every March the academy celebrates World Book Day with a range of activities, such as dressing up as your favourite book character, ‘The Big Book Swap’, quizzes and competitions.
Scholastic Book Fair
Christmas shopping starts in November at Lostock Hall Academy with Scholastic’s Book Fair. The fair offers a fantastic range of young adult fiction and reading gifts while raising funds for the upkeep of library stock.
The Big Book Quiz
Students with a passion for reading fiction work together to make themselves experts in The Big Book Quiz reading list each year. Competing against other secondary schools in the area, students are quizzed on the plot, characters and details of six novels.
Author Visits
Every year the library welcomes authors to discuss their recent novels with classes and LHA’s book club members. Recent authors to visit LHA include Elen Caldecott, Holly Bourne, James Dawson, William Hussey, Liz Flanagan and Jenny Downham.
Bringing Fiction to Life
Revision of GCSE Literature set texts is made fun with The Manchester Actors Company. This year they will perform ‘A Christmas Carol’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde’ at Lostock Hall Academy.
