Intent

At our Academy, we believe that learning should extend beyond the classroom. While there is no longer a national requirement to maintain a blended curriculum, we continue to embrace this approach because it enhances learning, promotes independence, and ensures that every student can remain connected to their education.

A significant strength of our Academy is our 1:1 device scheme, which ensures that every student has access to the technology needed to engage with learning both in school and at home. This allows students to access resources, complete assignments, revisit key concepts and continue learning regardless of their location or circumstances.

Through our online learning platform, Synergy, we organise curriculum content so that students can develop effective study habits, take greater ownership of their learning, and become confident, reflective and independent learners. By providing consistent access to high-quality resources, we support students in developing the metacognitive skills needed to plan, monitor and evaluate their own progress.

Implementation

Teachers use Synergy to complement and enhance classroom learning by providing students with access to resources, learning activities and assessment materials linked to their curriculum subjects. Each subject develops and maintains structured online courses that enable students to access learning materials whenever they need them.

This blended approach allows students to:

  • Revisit and consolidate key knowledge and skills.
  • Access lesson materials and resources outside of timetabled lessons.
  • Engage with wider reading, enrichment activities and independent study.
  • Complete assignments and receive feedback digitally.
  • Continue learning when absent from lessons or temporarily unable to attend school.
  • Develop digital literacy skills that prepare them for further education and the workplace.

The Academy's 1:1 device programme ensures that all students can benefit fully from these opportunities, helping to remove barriers to learning and promoting inclusion for every learner. It does not replace traditional learning or diminish the importance of handwriting but ensures that the Academy keeps up strong channels of communication with all its learners no matter their situation.

Impact

Our blended curriculum ensures that learning remains accessible, inclusive and flexible. Students have continual access to curriculum resources, can quickly catch up on missed learning, and are able to study more independently. Through regular use of digital tools and resources, students also develop the organisational, technological and self-regulation skills that will support their success in further education, employment and lifelong learning.
