Intent

Engineering is a dynamic and rewarding subject that combines the principles of Science and Mathematics to solve real-world problems. This qualification is designed to develop a strong core of engineering knowledge and understanding while enabling learners to apply their learning through practical and engaging experiences.

The course is particularly suited to learners who enjoy hands-on learning, problem-solving and working on projects that have clear and meaningful real-world applications. Through an inclusive learning environment and high expectations, students are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and aspiration for their future pathways.

Learners will develop the skills to interpret technical drawings, select appropriate materials, tools and equipment, and safely use machinery to complete practical engineering tasks. Throughout the course, students gain an understanding of current health and safety legislation and the importance of working responsibly and professionally within engineering environments.

Implementation

Our carefully sequenced curriculum provides students with opportunities to build technical knowledge, practical competence and independent learning skills over time. Through excellent teaching and engaging practical experiences, learners develop their understanding of engineering processes, materials, manufacturing techniques and industry-standard working practices.

Students are supported to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and apply their knowledge to increasingly complex tasks, preparing them for future study and employment within the engineering sector.

Learning Journey

Impact

The Engineering curriculum provides students with a strong foundation for further study, employment and lifelong learning. Learners leave the course with valuable technical knowledge, practical skills and the confidence to take responsibility for their own learning and achievement.

This qualification supports progression to apprenticeships, further education and a wide range of Level 3 qualifications, including A Levels and Technical Levels. It also prepares students for careers within engineering and manufacturing industries, as well as opportunities in the Armed Forces, including the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

By fostering ambition, resilience and a commitment to excellence, the Engineering curriculum helps students become skilled, confident and adaptable young people who are ready to contribute positively to their communities and thrive in their future careers.
